Factory Location in India’s Carpet Industry ↗
A comparison of coastal and traditional inland production locations, considering costs, logistics and workforce needs—and how the right location changes with the product.
Student · Economics & industry
I’m a second-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma student at The Shri Ram School, Moulsari, in Gurugram, India. My interests lie in economics: how businesses make decisions, how industries evolve, and how policy shapes everyday life.
My research has taken me into India’s carpet industry, from factory locations and export markets to the people and processes behind the finished rug. I’ve also explored agricultural supply chains, personalized pricing and carbon markets.
Outside academics, I play football and tabla, lead my school’s Culinary Society, and enjoy discovering food cultures.

Learning by doing
I supported sourcing for US wholesalers from rug manufacturers in Bhadohi, Panipat and Jaipur. I compared supplier quotations, knot density and yarn composition against buyer specifications, assisted with factory quality inspections, and tracked export documentation and shipping timelines. I also researched how US tariff increases and Turkish competition affected orders and margins.
I founded The Woven Future to introduce younger audiences to India’s carpet industry. Through a planned series of short video interviews with industry professionals, global rug designers and factory owners, I aim to explore the people, craftsmanship and business practices behind the rugs.
During a three-week residential program at Franklin & Marshall College, I studied the Prisoner’s Dilemma, zero-sum and non-zero-sum games, and probability. The course introduced me to quantitative and strategic reasoning, and to applying these ideas to everyday decisions.
During this two-week program, I built and coded a prototype exploring indicators associated with early Parkinson’s disease. Hand-mounted sensors measured tremors and stiffness, and the readings were compared with established patient patterns. The program combined hands-on technology and problem-solving with learning alongside students from across India.
I studied three foundational econometric methods and how they can be used to investigate real-world economic questions.
I’m studying statistical analysis and advanced Excel tools, including probability, data visualization, hypothesis testing and regression, with a focus on business decision-making.
Outside the classroom
As Head of the School Culinary Society, I lead recipe workshops and cooking challenges. My student cookbook project, Recipe Book for the Dormies, brings together more than 20 simple, budget-friendly recipes to help students cook independently. I also volunteer in the Gurudwara community kitchen through Langar Seva.
I’ve played football since age six, including as a right-back for Royal Rangers Academy and with my school team at the ISSO Nationals in Surat. I follow Manchester United’s matches, tactics and team affairs.
I’ve played tabla since age four and perform regularly at school. I have completed Level 3 at Prayag Sangeet Samiti and teach beginner tabla online to two students from Duke University’s Duke Sangeet.
